
The challenge
Some projects take time to come to fruition, especially when they involve transforming established industries. Snaitech Spa, a cornerstone of Italy’s betting landscape, has long been intertwined with the nation’s love for football and wagering. With roots tracing back to Italy’s cultural history — including the gladiatorial games and chariot races of the Roman Empire — Snaitech’s retail presence is a staple in Italian life.
In 2015, Snaitech approached KT Group with an inquiry on the development of their first SSBT. With new vision and momentum, the project started, marking the beginning of a transformative partnership.

The strategy
The turning point came during a pivotal meeting at the 2016 Enada gaming expo. Snaitech asked KT Group if it could scale to meet an ambitious initial rollout. At the time, Snaitech was targeting 800 units. KT Group confirmed its ability to meet these demands, and the project was greenlit.
KT Group delivered the first wave of Whizz terminals in 2017, and the impact was immediate. Within the first 12 months, the Whizz terminal became the foundation of Snaitech’s digital sportsbook strategy. To further expand into compact retail spaces, KT Group developed the Whizz Mini, a more space-efficient model that allowed Snaitech to widen its market presence.
- In 2017: initial rollout began with Whizz terminals deployed to key locations
- By 2019: nearly 2,000 units had been installed nationwide
- 2019-2020: the introduction of the Whizz Mini expanded reach into smaller retail outlets, increasing Snaitech’s presence
- By 2020: Snaitech’s retail network featured over 2,800 Whizz terminals across Italy
The solution
With the success of the initial deployments, KT Group and Snaitech entered into a new phase of their partnership. By the end of 2020, over 2,800 Whizz terminals had been integrated into Snaitech’s nationwide network, fundamentally transforming the retail betting experience.
Looking ahead to 2024, KT Group and Snaitech agreed on the next evolution of the Whizz platform — the Whizz Neo terminal. This next-generation model debuted in summer 2024, offering:
- Expanded payment options, including card transactions
- Enhanced player protection through upgraded tech
- Future-ready support for facial recognition features
This next phase builds on more than a decade of collaboration — helping Snaitech continue leading the evolution of Italy’s betting landscape.
